Remote Control

Remote Control

From small mechanisms to full-size vehicles, engineered to move without a visible operator as part of a complete practical SFX service.

Engineered To Move On Cue

Mechatrons FX builds remote-controlled mechanisms and rigs that give props, set pieces and vehicles controlled, repeatable movement on camera, with no visible operator or driver in shot. It’s one of the specialist SFX capabilities that sets our Irish workshop apart.

Full-Size Vehicle Conversions

When a shot calls for a car, bike or other full-size vehicle to move with no driver visible, we convert the vehicle itself to remote-controlled operation: steering, throttle and braking rigged for an off-board operator, built and tested to the same reliability standard as the rest of our work. This covers picture cars for driverless shots, runaway vehicle gags, and precision moves that would be too dangerous or too repetitive for a stunt driver to hold consistently.

Small-Scale Mechanisms

The same remote-control approach applies to props and set pieces: objects that need to move, open, transform or collapse precisely on cue, engineered around the specific shot so they move the same way, at the same speed, take after take.

  • Mechanical transformations and multi-stage sequences
  • Repeating movements built for take after take without drift
  • Large moving set elements and structures
  • Shot-specific engineering built around a director’s or stunt coordinator’s brief

From Workshop To Set

Mechanisms and vehicle conversions are designed and proven in our workshop before our own crew rigs and operates them on set, so the same team that engineered the movement is the team running it on the day. This is exactly the capability behind our sci-fi and high-tech work.
