A closer look at how a handful of productions used Mechatrons FX to solve a specific problem on set, from weather and practical effects to prop functionality and animatronics.

Shelter
2026 · Weather Effects & Practical SFX
The Challenge
The production needed a sustained, controllable weather sequence for a night shoot — heavy atmosphere and moving haze that had to read consistently across multiple takes and camera setups without slowing the shooting day down.
The Solution
Mechatrons FX built and operated a dedicated atmospherics rig for the shoot, combining fog and haze generation with wind control so the effect matched the lighting and blocking on every take, and could be reset quickly between setups.
The Result
The weather effects held up across the full shooting schedule, giving the director consistent coverage without reshoots.

4 Kids Walk Into a Bank
2026 · Practical Effects & Prop Functionality
The Challenge
Key props in the film had to function convincingly on camera — behaving correctly, responding to interaction from the cast, and repeating the same sequence reliably take after take, rather than being faked in post-production.
The Solution
Mechatrons FX engineered the electronics and programmed functionality behind the props, building controlled sequences the cast could interact with directly and that the crew could reset quickly between takes.
The Result
The props performed to spec throughout the shoot, giving the director genuine on-camera interaction rather than a visual-effects workaround.

Good Omens
Hugo Award-Winning Series · Animatronics & Mechanical Effects
The Challenge
The series needed mechanical characters and creature performances precise enough to hold up in close-up, across a demanding effects workload spanning multiple seasons.
The Solution
Mechatrons FX contributed animatronic and mechanical effects work, engineering movement and performance into practical builds so the cast and crew had something real to shoot against on set.
The Result
Good Omens went on to win the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, with the practical effects forming part of a production recognised for its technical and creative achievement.
